How To Help At Home

At St Winifred’s, we believe that children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) thrive best when school and home work in close partnership. Supporting your child’s learning and wellbeing doesn’t stop at the school gates, families play a vital role in creating consistent, nurturing environments that reflect the strategies used in school.

This section of our website is designed to help parents and carers feel confident in supporting their child at home. Please see our “How to Help at Home” documents and useful links/padlets from Stockport for more information.

Quality First Teaching

All staff at St Winifred’s are committed to ensuring that every child receives the highest standard of education through Quality First Teaching (QFT). This approach places strong, inclusive classroom practice at the heart of learning, ensuring that teaching is responsive, well-planned, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of all pupils, including those with SEND.

Quality First Teaching is the foundation of our provision. It involves high expectations, clear learning objectives, adaptive teaching strategies, and a focus on building strong relationships with pupils. By embedding inclusive practices into everyday teaching, we reduce barriers to learning and promote success for every child. It is the first step in our graduated approach to SEND support, and it reflects our belief that every child deserves to thrive in a classroom where their needs are understood and met.

We have used the EEF “5 a day” approach to underpin our provision. Please see our 4 areas of need documents for more information. For subject specific quality first teaching, all teachers have access to our “subject specific scaffolding documents” which helps them to plan inclusive lessons for all. Please see our sample for Maths.
