Our Specific Curriculum Intention for Art
Our aim in teaching Art & Design at St Winifred’s RC Primary School is to stimulate children’s creativity and imagination by enabling them to express themselves in a curriculum that is permeated by God’s love in action. From experiencing a clear sequence of cross-curricular and discrete lessons, children will deepen their knowledge, understanding and skills in Art & Design.
In Art & Design, we hope that our children will leave St Winifred’s having experienced an engaging, inspiring and challenging curriculum that allows them
to think critically and to experiment, invent and create their own art work reflecting respect and recognition of our world and the cultural heritages of those around them.
Art in EYFS
Art is taught within the Expressive Arts and Design specific area of learning of the EYFS. Imagination and creativity is developed through a wide variety of activities and through a range of media and materials. Children are encouraged to share their creations and to articulate their thought processes and ideas. Children develop their artistic skills through the explicit teaching of techniques and also through independent experimentation.
