Our Specific Curriculum Intention for Music
In Music, we hope that our children leave St Winifred’s with a passion for music and with pride and confidence to improvise, compose and perform creatively and collaboratively. Music is a universal language which can bring together a variety of people and communities through memory, culture and celebration. At St Winifred’s, we embrace this to unite as a school community through whole school singing, ensembles, love of listening, inspiring our peers, celebrating performance and collective worship.
Using ‘Kapow’ music scheme, we encourage all children to participate in an enjoyable, achievable and progressive music curriculum which allows children to develop an appreciation of musical genres through, history, listening and responding and encouraging their own perceptions of what music means to them.
Children should leave St Winifred’s with a sound understanding of the interrelated dimensions of music, able to improvise and compose music using rhythm and notation which reflects their own individual taste, and feel eager and confident to perform solo or in small groups
